New DAC Director’s Coin

March 12, 2025

Laura Cofrancesco

In coordination with the Center’s recent restructuring, U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC) leaders set out to design a new iteration of the Director’s Coin that symbolizes our mission to not only our DAC team members, but also external senior military and civilian leaders. Influenced by military “challenge coins,” the DAC coin is adapted for civilian context and will be presented to individuals who represent the actions, attitudes and accomplishments that reflect DAC’s Values, Mission and Vision.

The redesign was a group effort between DAC’s leadership and Sydney Portale, DAC Strategic Communications Specialist. Several key elements were considered when designing the coin. Front and center is the Soldier to emphasize DAC’s analysis support that improves Army systems that are critical to effective mission completion. The Soldier is outfitted with next-generation equipment, representing the fact DAC is enabling future Army Operating Concepts. The mountains in the background emphasize the broad landscape of work DAC is involved in. The words “Forge the Future” and “Data, Analysis, Tools” encapsulate our competencies and our commitment to enforce AFC’s mission and scope of work.

The DAC coin will be awarded at the discretion of Mr. Larry Larimer, DAC Director. The general criteria for receiving a coin are as follows:

  • Outstanding Service or Achievement: Civilians who demonstrate exceptional performance, go above and beyond in their roles, or make a notable contribution to the Center.
  • Support for Military Personnel: Civilians who show strong support for military members, such as through organizing events, providing resources, or enhancing morale.
  • Special Contributions to Military-Civilian Partnership Goals: Civilians who help advance joint military-civilian objectives, such as community engagement, outreach, or partnerships that benefit both parties.
  • Professional Milestones: Commemoration of specific professional milestones or events, such as employment anniversaries, promotions, or significant project completions.
  • Visits and Special Events: Senior military or civilian leaders visiting the Center may receive a coin as a symbol of respect and to mark the occasion.
