The Kinesiology students in the Science and Mathematics Academy (SMA) at Aberdeen High School and their teacher Ms. Gabriel recently visited the M Experimental Facility (M-Range) and Soldier Performance and Equipment Advanced Research (SPEAR) Complex. U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC) Human Systems Integration Division (HSID) Weapons Branch scientists shared the human performance and biomechanics capabilities with the students, including lab-based and portable sensors, data collection technology, and multi-use research space to investigate Warfighter-system performance. Students engaged in hands-on experiences with the sensors and experimental spaces to understand the translation of material taught in kinesiology class with real-life Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) research and applied science. Weapons Branch scientists have been and are currently active mentors for senior SMA students completing their capstone design projects. This tour was an opportunity for other students in the program to understand how Weapons Branch scientists conduct research on human movement and performance to protect the Warfighter.

As one of the eight U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Centers and a subordinate of the U.S. Army Futures Command, The (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC) informs Army transformation and readiness decisions across the system’s life cycle through objective integrated system-level Analysis, and the development of credible Data and Analytic Tools. DAC is one of eight Centers and Labs within DEVCOM.  Visit the DEVCOM website for more information.
